Inner Sun Kriya for Immune Strength

☀️ The Inner Sun ☀️

Ever notice how a cold arrives right when you're running low on warmth & reserve?

In Ayurveda, that's exactly what's happening.

Too much cold, damp energy has built up in the body & Agni, our inner fire, needs support to burn through it.

This Kundalini kriya pairs left nostril Breath of Fire with Surya Mudra to bring that fire back online.

We return to it often for immune support, steady vitality & a more open heart center.

Here's the practice:

☀️ Sit comfortably, spine upright & relaxed, chin slightly tucked toward the chest.

☀️ Make a fist with the right hand, extend the pointer finger & close the right nostril.

☀️ Form Surya Mudra with the left hand, thumb pressed to the base of the ring finger with the palm facing forward.

☀️ Begin Breath of Fire through the left nostril, building a steady heat.

☀️ When finished, interlace the fingers in front of the throat, just below the thymus.

☀️ Inhale, hold the breath & pull the arms in opposite directions with real force, without letting go.

☀️ Hold 10 to 20 seconds, then release. Repeat 3 more times.

Start with 3 minutes & build toward 11 as it feels right.

Personal note: our favorite way to practice is 3 rounds of 3 to 5 minutes each. It's a lot. It's also incredible. 🔆

Benefits traditionally associated with this kriya:

☀️ Support for the immune & nervous systems

☀️ Increased energy & vitality

☀️ Activation of the heart center

☀️ Greater lung capacity & circulation

Here's what's happening underneath it.

The left nostril connects to ida nadi, the lunar current governing intuition, receptivity & calm awareness. When ida is out of balance, cold & dampness collect.

Breath of Fire stokes prana & wakes up Agni.

Surya Mudra, the Seal of the Sun, raises internal heat, supports metabolism & aids digestion.

Together, they meet that cold, damp imbalance with real warmth, restoring heat & cool at every level of the system.

Benefits:

☀️ Strengthens the immune and nervous systems, especially valuable as the seasons shift
☀️ Builds steady, sustained energy rather than a quick spike
☀️ Opens and activates the heart center
☀️ Increases lung capacity and supports healthy circulation

How It Works:

☀️ Left nostril breath and Surya Mudra work together to bring heat (Agni) to cold, damp energy in the body
☀️ Breath of Fire stokes prana and ignites the body's inner fire
☀️ Surya Mudra, the Seal of the Sun, raises internal heat and supports metabolism and digestion
☀️ Balancing ida nadi (our lunar, receptive current) helps calm and intuition return without excess cold or stagnation

When to Practice:

☀️ First thing in the morning (especially during winter), to set a steady, warm tone for the day
☀️ During seasonal transitions, when the immune system needs extra support
☀️ Anytime you're feeling low on energy, foggy, or emotionally flat
☀️ As a 3 to 11 minute standalone practice, or build up to 3 rounds for a deeper reset

May this practice remind you of the light & warmth already living in you.
